ROOTED • A Lawal Travel Services Sabbatical

Set It Down for Seven Nights.

An intentional sabbatical for Black women, on Mexico's Lagoon of Seven Colors. Two windows to choose from: October 14–21, 2026, or January 14–21, 2027. An intimate gathering. Space is limited.

WE CARRY SO MUCH

Black women are so often the ones holding it together: for our families, our teams, our communities, the people who lean on us and the ones who never think to ask if we are tired. We pour, and we pour. This is an invitation to stop, for one full week, and be poured into instead. Rooted is an invitation to pause.

Not to perform wellness.
Not to achieve personal growth.
Not to become a better version of yourself.

Simply to rest.

For one full week, you are invited to step away from the noise, the expectations, and the endless responsibilities and allow yourself to be cared for instead.

The Details

  • Dates: choose your window — Wednesday, October 14 to Wednesday, October 21, 2026, or Thursday, January 14 to Thursday, January 21, 2027
  • Group size: intentionally small and intimate; the January 2027 date is limited to five guests
  • Occupancy: single only; each woman has her own private room — a Jungle Room for the January 2027 date
  • Getting there: fly into Chetumal, Tulum, or Cancún; all ground transportation is included
  • Investment: $5,500 per person (single occupancy), same price for either date
  • To reserve: a $1,000 nonrefundable deposit holds your place (applied toward your balance)

WHY ROOTED?

We spend so much of life responding—to responsibilities, expectations, deadlines, and the needs of others.

Rooted is an invitation to return to yourself.

To become grounded again.
To listen to your own voice.
To remember what feels true, meaningful, and nourishing in this season of your life.

Not because something is wrong.
Because something important deserves your attention.

Sometimes the most transformative thing we can do is pause long enough to hear ourselves again.

THIS MAY BE FOR YOU IF...

  • You are successful by most measures but deeply tired.

  • You spend much of your life caring for others.

  • You cannot remember the last time you took a trip solely for yourself.

  • You are entering a new season of life and want space to reflect.

  • You crave quiet more than activity.

  • You have spent years giving and are ready, for once, to receive.

If you saw yourself in even one of these, you may already understand why this experience exists.

THIS IS NOT A RETREAT

It is not a girls' trip, either.

It is an opportunity to rest, reflect, and rejuvenate, shaped around a single intention: spaciousness.

There is no packed agenda.
No pressure to participate.
No itinerary to perform.

Just seven nights in one of the most peaceful corners of Mexico, among a small circle of women who understand exactly what it took to get here.

You are free to engage, connect, wander, journal, nap, swim, read, or do absolutely nothing at all.

The choice is yours.

Black women sabbatical in Bacalar

THE LAGOON OF SEVEN COLORS

This destination was a deliberate choice. Not Cancún, not Cabo, not Playa; not the Mexico of crowded pools, party boats, and jet skis. Bacalar is the quiet one, a still and sleepy corner of the country that most travelers never reach. It sits on a freshwater lagoon so clear, and layered with so many shades of blue, that it is named for its seven colors, a wonder made by nature rather than built for visitors.

There are no ruins to climb here, no excursions to endure, no itinerary chasing you from one thing to the next. There is the water, the light moving across it, the slow warm days, and the quiet. This is a place built for pausing, which is the entire reason we are bringing you here. We have chosen a small, intimate property for the same reason — quiet, gentle, and made for rest. For seven nights, this time is entirely your own.

UNSTRUCTURED

There is one gentle shared gathering during the week. You choose two additional experiences.

Sleep late. Watch the sunrise. Journal. Swim.
Read three books. Take a nap in the middle of the day.

Rest does not keep a schedule.

GETTING THERE

Fly into whichever of three airports feels most easeful for you. We handle the ground transportation from each.

  • Cancún (CUN): about 4 hours and 11 minutes away. Usually the easiest to reach, with the most direct flights from the US, in exchange for the longest drive. Light refreshments will be waiting on the Cancún transfer.
  • Tulum (TQM): about 2 hours and 20 minutes away
  • Chetumal (CTM): about 30 minutes away, the shortest drive of all

A quick note on routing: Cancún tends to offer the best direct flights, so the trade is a longer ride. Tulum and Chetumal shorten the drive, but often involve one or two connections that can add up to more total travel time. Choose the path that feels easiest on your body, and we will meet you on the other side.

For arrivals, so the group can travel in together, please plan to land by 2:00 PM if you fly into Cancún and by 4:00 PM if you fly into Tulum. Chetumal has no cutoff, given how close it sits.

For departures from Cancún, book your return flight to leave after 2:00 PM; the return vehicle departs the resort at 9:00 AM. For Tulum and Chetumal, we will confirm your departure timing closer to the date.

Once your space is confirmed, we will help you choose the routing that fits you best.

  • Investment:
$5,500 per person, either the October 2026 or January 2027 date

  • Single occupancy only

We highly recommend purchasing travel insurance with trip cancellation coverage at the time you book. See the Frequently Asked Questions below for our full cancellation policy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Flights are not included, which keeps your costs flexible. You can fly into Chetumal (CTM), Tulum (TQM), or Cancún (CUN), and your ground transportation from the airport is included. (See Getting there for drive times and arrival cutoffs.)

A $1,000 nonrefundable deposit reserves your space when you register, and is applied toward your balance. Your remaining balance is due 75 days before departure: August 16, 2026 for the October date, and October 31, 2026 for the January date. If you register inside that window, the full amount is due at registration. You may pay by credit card or bank transfer.

Your $1,000 deposit is nonrefundable, as it reserves your room and covers planning already underway on your behalf.

If you cancel 60 or more days before your arrival date, your remaining balance is refunded in full. If you cancel fewer than 60 days before arrival, the full amount becomes nonrefundable.

Because of these terms, we highly recommend purchasing travel insurance with trip cancellation and medical coverage at the time you book.

This sabbatical is single occupancy by design, so everyone has her own private room and her own space to retreat into. You will be among a small circle of women, but your room is entirely yours.

Space Is Limited.

If something in you softened while reading this, pay attention to that. The women who belong here usually know before they can explain why. Reserve your space with a deposit, and let us take care of the rest.

This sabbatical is curated and managed by Lawal Travel Services. The "Reserve Your Space" buttons link to our secure booking page, where you reserve your space, share your details, and place your deposit.
